Cold War

The Cold War (1947–1991) was a long period of political tension and military rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union after World War II. Unlike the world wars, the two superpowers never fought each other directly, but they competed globally through proxy wars, espionage, nuclear arms buildup, and space exploration. The Cold War ended in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
